In reality, this Explorer Edition isn’t supposed to be thought of in that way. The current version of Glass is intended for developers and a lucky few others, and as a research project, it is a fascinating one. Developers will want to get their hands on this ASAP and, frankly, we hope that they do because we can’t wait to see what they can do with it.

Google Glass has lot of potential. It will be interesting to see how this pans out in next few months. Google has to lower the $1500 price tag and make it bit more easy to get for developers / companies to explore and come up with something interesting.

Privacy is another concern - are you recording a video or just wearing your Google Glass?

Something we were dabbling for last one year - using contextual information to augment missing data. With additional layer of data, you can provide different and interesting context to monotonous data.

The patent describes a smart to-do list that combines natural language processing for easy text entry, with contextual information sourced from your device to fill in all the little details that you might omit in making a casual task entry.

I wish Apple expose this for developers.

Bing claims that they beat Google 2:1 in their tests.

I always liked Bing for their local queries. It presents the data very well but Google is catching up on it. Video - Bing definitely.

Google is better with direct queries and fresh indexes; the couple of new pages I hosted as part of my blog and startup turned up in Google first.

I am pretty excited about Google’s semantic search -  connecting dots between metadata is something I have been working on for last few months.

Think of opportunities for long tail products that could come out of this if Google decides to expose this as APIs.

My previous post had comScore data on top 10 iOS and Android applications. I wrote a note on how interesting it is to see Android Marketplace, GMail and Google Search made into top 10. Nielsen’s report got the same applications but seeing Android Marketplace is bothering me.

How is comScore and Nielsen measuring app activity? Android Market cannot be more than Facebook or other social / successful apps with 49,717 thousand unique visitors in just March 2012 alone.

  • Users are spending more time on their mobile (mobile browser and apps combined) and it is growing every month. (Source)
  • Mobile apps are driving engagement than mobile web pages (Source).
  • Facebook is leading the engagement metric (441.3 minutes); Pintrest is growing (52.9 minutes) and Google+ is not in the top 5. (Source)
I believe the engagement is higher with mobile applications because they provide better user experience by leveraging the platform. Though mobile web applications can provide similar functionality, it lacks the engagement.
An interesting observation: Android platform utility apps like Gmail, Google Search and Android Market made into top 10 in audience traffic. On iOS, it is 3rd party applications like Pandora, YouTube, Weather that dominated the list.
